Alhamdulillah, we are delighted to officially welcome Imam Basil Farooq as our new Imam at WVMA!
Though this may feel like an introduction, many of you already know Imam Basil wellhe has been an integral part of our community for years, serving as a teacher, khateeb, and mentor. It is a true blessing that he has now formally joined the WVMA family as our Imam.
Imam Basils journey is one rooted in scholarship and service. Born and raised between the UAE and the Bay Area, he memorized the Quran at the age of 14 and later completed advanced studies in the ten canonical qirt, earning authorization (ijza) to teach them through Recite with Love. Alongside his Islamic studies, he pursued academic excellence at UC Berkeley, graduating in 2019 with dual degrees in Economics and Applied Mathematics. He currently works as an economist in antitrust litigation while continuing his pursuit of higher Islamic education as a student in the limiyyah program at Qalam Institute in Dallas.
His studies span Tafsr, Hadith, Fiqh (Shfi and Hanaf), Usul al-Fiqh, Aqda, Tajwd, Ulum al-Quran, and Arabic Literature. He is also engaged in Quranic research and writing, most recently publishing Within its Depths: How the Canonical Recitations Affect the Meaning of the Quran.
We are truly honored to have Imam Basil Farooq join our leadership as Imam. May Allah bless his efforts and allow our community to grow stronger together.
