WhatsApp Scam Alert
We received a new report earlier in the week of a scammer claiming to be from MCA and asking people to join in for a Zoom call (1-206-841-9258).
Some reminders:
-
Never share your verification code: The most important thing is to never share your WhatsApp verification code with anyone, no matter how convincing they might sound.
-
Enable two-step verification: This adds an additional layer of security to your account. Even if someone gets your verification code, they won't be able to access your account without this second code.
-
Be cautious of unexpected messages or calls: If someone contacts you unexpectedly and asks for personal information or codes, be suspicious.
If you suspect that your WhatsApp account has been compromised, you should immediately log out of all sessions, reset your account using your phone number, and enable two-step verification to secure your account.
WhatsApp is not known as a good model of security. Subscribe to our email newsletter via the bottom of mcabayarea.org or look for announcements on the Masjidal Athan+ app (set MCA as a favorite with the heart).

O People! Spread peace, feed people, keep relations with your kin and pray at night when people are asleep, and you will enter paradise in peace! -Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)

Community Spotlight:
Walking Away from Arguments:
A Sign of Strength in Islam
- By Mahad Abdi. MCA Safety & Security Manager
In Islam, walking away from arguments and disputesespecially when youre in the rightis not a sign of weakness, but a profound sign of strength, sincerity, and deep faith in Allah. Our religion teaches us that the one who controls their anger and walks away from conflict for the sake of Allah earns immense reward.
Allah says in the Quran:
And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a garden as wide as the heavens and earth, prepared for the righteousthose who spend in ease and hardship, who restrain anger, and who pardon the people; and Allah loves the doers of good. (Surah Aal Imran, 3:133134)
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also emphasized the great reward of avoiding disputes, even when one is in the right:
I guarantee a house in the surroundings of Paradise for the one who avoids arguing, even if he is right (Sunan Abu Dawood, 4800 Hasan)
Arguments often begin with pride and end in regret. Shaytan uses disputes as a way to sow division, especially among believers, families, and communities. Islam calls us to unity, humility, and patience. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
The strong man is not the one who is good at wrestling, but the strong man is the one who controls himself in a fit of rage.(Sahih al-Bukhari, 6114; Sahih Muslim, 2609)
Walking away from a dispute doesnt mean youre giving up your rights. It means youre handing your affairs over to Allah, trusting Him to give you what is better. In doing so, your patience becomes an act of worship, and Allah Himself becomes your defender.
Indeed, whoever fears AllahHe will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect. (Surah At-Talaq, 65:23)
Let us remind ourselves and one another that the reward with Allah is far greater than the temporary satisfaction of proving a point. Allah elevates those who control their anger and walk away from disputes for His sake.
May Allah make us among those who are patient, wise, and beloved to Him.
