You are invited to a Department of State's briefing on the safety and security situation in Lebanon for U.S. citizens

The Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs invites you and members of the public to an informational webinar on the safety and security situation in Lebanon for U.S. citizens. Unlike the webinar series you are used to which are hosted by Consular on the Hill, this one is open to the public, particularly those in diaspora communities, and you will need to register and submit questions in advance. The webinar will take place on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 11:00am ET.

Experts from the Bureaus of Consular Affairs and Near Eastern Affairs will discuss the current security environment in Lebanon, advice on travel to high-risk areas, and our limited consular services on the ground.

Please register and submit questions ahead of the event at:

The U.S. Department of State has no higher priority than the safety and security of U.S. citizens overseas. The State Department’s Travel Advisory for Lebanon is Level Four – Do Not Travel to Lebanon due to rising tensions between Hezbollah and Israel. Our recommendation to U.S. citizens currently in Lebanon is that they depart Lebanon while commercial options still remain available. At this time, commercial flights are available, but at reduced capacity. If the security situation worsens, commercial options to depart may become unavailable. The U.S. Embassy may not be able to assist U.S. citizens who choose to remain. Those who are in Lebanon and wish to depart are encouraged to book any ticket available to them, even if the flight does not depart immediately or does not follow their first-choice route. If you are in contact with U.S. citizens in Lebanon, please encourage them to depart.

On September 16, 2024, the Department of State launched a new version of the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). Anyone previously enrolled in the STEP system should re-enroll to continue receiving alerts. If you are in contact with U.S. citizens in Lebanon, please encourage them to register for STEP.
