Miss Porter’s School Visit
This past Friday during Jummah, we had the pleasure of hosting a group of students from Miss Porter’s School along with their Global History teacher. As part of their curriculum on world religions, the students attended the second khutbah and observed the congregational prayer.
After Jummah, they had the opportunity to engage in a thoughtful Q&A session with Br Khamis, Sr Noora and Sr. Ramla.
The students asked insightful questions, including:
- The meaning behind the movements in Salah
- The role and stories of different Prophets in Islam
- The difference between Sunni and Shia Muslims
- The process and experience of converting to Islam
- Personal journeys around wearing the Hijab
There was a rich discussion on the Five Pillars of Islam, with a special focus on Salat (prayer), what worship means in Islam, and how it is practiced daily.
The students thoroughly enjoyed their visit and each went home with an English translation of the Holy Qur’an
Some student reflections:
-
“It was meaningful to be able to hear the sermon... Getting that in-person experience—it was powerful.”
-
“I really appreciate that we got to actually ask questions and have a meaningful discussion... to really understand what was going on.”
-
“Everybody was so eager to help us understand more.”
We are grateful for the visit and proud to be part of meaningful interfaith and educational conversations. May these experiences continue to foster understanding, empathy, and community across all backgrounds.
