Assalam-o-Alaikum Community Members,

We hope this letter finds you healthy and in your best spirit post Ramadan Insha Allah.

Since its inception, EIC has been following the policy of Physical Moon Sighting and this past Eid Al Fitr was also aligned with this policy. It was, however, unfortunate to see Eid being celebrated on different days even within families.

EIC BOD acknowledges that with the advancement in technology and available alternatives, there is a growing need to reunite our community in order to keep the true spirit of these celebrations. Inline with this, after exploring various options and in depth discussions,, the BOD has decided to make the following changes to our policy effective immediately;

  1. EIC will switch from Physical Moon Sighting to Fiqh Council Of America (Calculation method) for the confirmation of the birth of the Moon for the entire Islamic Calendar, with the Exception of Dil-Hijjah

  2. For Dil-Hijjah (Eid Adha), in line with the recommendation of our Scholars, we will celebrate on the day after Arafat. This means we must follow Saudi Arabias announcement for starting the month of Dil-Hijjah.

To keep the tradition going, EICs will continue to host Moon sighting events for Ramadan and Eid Fitr on the expected day of the Birth of the Moon per FCNA calculations (viewing conditions permitting).

If there are any further questions, please write back or discuss with the religious committee or representatives/BOD

Jazak Allah Khairan

Religious Committee & BOD,
