Shaykh Ismail Bowers was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee. His father is an American convert to Islam, and his mother is from Fes, Morocco. He earned an ‘Alimiyyah (License in Islamic Scholarship) degree from the traditional University of Al-Qarawiyyin in Fes. He then completed a Master’s in Theology from Emory University and is currently a Ph.D. student in the Faculty of Theology and Religion at the University of Oxford in England.
