The Islamic Center of Southern California Calls for Peace and Healing in Gaza

[Los Angeles, CA - 10/7/2024] As we reflect on the past 365 days of tragedy and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the Islamic Center of Southern California urges our community to remember not only the lives lost and the suffering endured by families in Gaza but also to remain steadfast in hope, inspired by the resilience of the Palestinian people.

In this moment of remembrance, we turn to our faith, which teaches us the importance of compassion, justice, and peace. We see every broken heart, every individual who opposes terrorism in all its forms, and those whose voices have been muzzled or gaslit. We must remind our community: Do not despair. Allah sees all things, and He is the only judge. We bear witness to the genocide and pray for the innocent lives lost in Palestine and Lebanon.

While we are grieving, this is also a time for reflection, strength, and strategic action as a community. We believe it is essential for our leaders to seek a path toward healing by advocating for measures that protect innocent lives and foster an environment where all can live in dignity.

Our organization extends heartfelt condolences to those who have lost loved ones and stands in solidarity with all who are suffering. We call upon our community to come together in prayer and action, seeking to support those affected by this crisis and to promote peace in our world.

Let us be guided by our faith to remember the tenets of the Quran:

if anyone slays a human being-unless it be [in punishment] for murder or for spreading corruption on earth-it shall be as though he had slain all mankind; whereas, if anyone saves a life, it shall be as though he had saved the lives of all mankind (5:32)

And do not take any human being's life -[the life] which God has willed to be, sacred-otherwise than in [the pursuit of] justice[And as for him who has been slain wrongfully -] behold, he is indeed succored by God! (17:33)

With these verses from the Quran as our backing, we pray unequivocally and unabashedly and for ALL innocent souls, that God forgives their sins, and enters them into the highest part of paradise.
