Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center Responds to Recent Media Coverage
Falls Church, VA Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center affirms its commitment to the principles of freedom of speech and the importance of fair treatment in light of recent media reports surrounding a local teacher. The article in question unfairly associates Shayma Al-Hanooti with tragic events from over two decades ago, implying guilt by association without consideration for personal beliefs or actions.
The values of free speech and freedom of association are central tenets of our society. Individuals must be judged based on their own conduct and actions, not on the faith, background, or relationships they may have. To imply that any person is responsible for the actions of others because of their religious or familial connections is both unjust and harmful. This kind of irresponsible reporting may put peoples life in danger. And, such allegations undermine the core principles that our society holds dear.
Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center has always stood firmly against hate, violence, and terrorism. We unequivocally condemn all forms of extremism. Our center is a place of peace, prayer, and service to the community. We continue to work alongside people of all faiths to promote understanding, respect and harmony.
We urge the public and the media to engage in thoughtful discourse and to resist the temptation to draw conclusions based on incomplete or misleading information. At Dar Al-Hijrah, we believe in a just society where individuals are respected for who they are and the values they live by, rather than being condemned by association.
