Plus new interfaith event on 3/3

~ As salamu alaykum ~

Urgent : 2 Action Items

  1. Please send an Email to Morgan Hill City Council and ask them to pass a Sustainable Peace Ceasefire resolution. Below are the email addresses for all the MH City Council members, along with bullet points you can use to draft a personal email- (please have your children send an email or write letters/draw a picture then email their letter/drawing to council members too.)

  2. Attend the Morgan Hill City Council meeting on Wednesday, March 6 at 6pm, arrive before 5pm.

WHERE:

City Council Chamber Building:

17575 Peak Avenue Morgan Hill, CA 95037

Notes:

  • We need as many people to attend and make a public comment during the general comment time asking the council to pass the Sustainable Peace Ceasefire Resolution. When you arrive on 3/6, please complete a speaker's card so you can speak during public comment. Please note: You will have only 1 minute to speak during the Sustainable Peace ceasefire agenda item if you complete a speaker's card. (The opposition is planning to pack the main room as they did in Gilroy & they are planning to arrive very early so that there is no room for us in chambers at all where the council members will see us. For that reason we are asking our community to please arrive before 5pm so that the city council members can visually see that there are more people supporting this resolution instead of the people who want the killings to continue.)

Talking Points:

1. This resolution will validate, acknowledge, and empathize with our community members here in MH who have been directly impacted by the horrific atrocities in Palestine. Just like when someone is in a horrible car accident, the community supports them, they validate that it was a horrific experience, they empathize that it's heartbreaking. Pass the Sustainable Peace Ceasefire Resolution to let our children know the city council does not approve of thousands of innocent children like them, and innocent civilians being indiscriminately killed.

2. This resolution will unite our community just as other MH resolutions have done in the past. The most recent example is the Stand United Against Hate resolution. Since that was passed there have held many positive community events with diverse community members gathering together to create a compassionate community. That resolution did not divide our community, nor did it create any hate. That resolution has been continuously bringing the community together in unity in amazing positive ways over the years now. What creates division is when the city council fails to acknowledge the horrific atrocities & killings occurringcurrentlyin Palestine, but fully supportedUkrainians immediately & unanimously during those atrocities- this clearly shows discriminatory practices by the city council when they selectively value some human lives over otherlives based on ethnicity. What creates division is when the city council fails to recognize and condemn the significant rise in Islamophobia and antisemitism impacting our children and many families- when hate is ignored by leaders research shows it leads to more hate.

3. In April 2022 Morgan Hill City Council unanimously passed the Support for Ukraine Proclamation. That resolution acknowledged the pain and gave empathy to the MH community that was being impacted. The city council needs to show the same leadership and equity to pass a ceasefire resolution to support & give empathy to local Palestinian and Israeli families being directly impacted now locally. It also shows leadership to the thousands of children in MH that their city council leaders know how to empathize and do not agree with the killings of innocent civilians that they are watching through live streamed. International situations abroad do have very direct local impacts, and the council should not discriminate that a Palestinian and Israeli life is less valuable than the Ukrainian lives that the council valued and supported in the past.
