Take advantage of this forgotten month
Â
Jumuah Mubarak to our dear brothers and sisters.
As we approach Ramadan, a sacred window of opportunity quietly unfolds before usSha'ban. With the sighting of the crescent moon last night, today is the first day of Sha'ban. Often overlooked in the shadow of Rajab and the impending arrival of Ramadan, thismonth holds treasures for those who seek them.
The Prophet said: "It is a month in which the deeds are taken up to the Lord of the worlds, and I like that my deeds be taken up when I am fasting. (Sunan al-Nas 2357)
In these words, we hear a call to action. Shaban is a time to prepareto purifyand to strengthen. Think of it as a final opportunity to set your heart in the right direction before the immense mercy of Ramadan. Imam al-Ghazali reminds us that just as a vessel must be cleaned before it can be filled, our hearts must be purified before receiving the divine blessings Ramadan offers. Shaban is that purificationa moment to renew our intentions and cleanse our hearts.
Beyondfasting, Shaban is a time to deepen our connection to the Prophet by sending salawat upon him. It was during this month that Allah the Exalted revealed these verses:
How often do we pause to reflect on the immense reward of sending peace upon him? Our connection to the Prophet is not just in the afterlife but begins right now. His closeness on the Day of Resurrection will belong tothose who sent the most prayers upon him. Imagine that closeness, that bondhow precious it will be!
Halfway through Shaban, Allah bestows upon us a night of unparalleled grace and mercy: Allah looks down at His creation on the middle night of Shaban and forgives all of His creatures, except for an idolater or one filled with malice. (Sahih Ibn Hibbn5665)
This is your invitation to leave behind what weighs you downforgiveness, grace, and mercy are within your grasp. Let go of grudges, regrets, and pain. Begin freshbefore Ramadan, Allah offers us a chance to reset.
The Prophet tells us that the best deeds are those done regularlyeven if they are few. (Sunan Ibn Mjah 4240) Let us use Sha'ban to lay a strong foundation for Ramadan. Fasting, reciting the Qur'an, and sending salawat upon the Prophet are acts that will elevate us now and in the Hereafter.
May this month be your time of transformationwhere you cleanse your heart, renew your devotion, and prepare to welcome Ramadan with an open and gratefulheart.
