ISM Shura Elections for 2025

NOMINATION FORM - Use this form to recommend someone on or before Friday, March 14, 2025.

WHAT POSITIONS ARE UP FOR ELECTION THIS YEAR?

The following positions are up for election this year:

  1. Vice President

  2. Secretary

  3. Outreach Chair

  4. At Large Member

CAN ANYONE NOMINATE A PERSON?

Almost! As long as you are currently a member of the ISM, you are allowed to nominate any number of candidates.

WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS TO BE ON THE SHURA?

Individuals (brothers or sisters) who are willing to commit their time and talents for their faith and community "fee sabeel-illah" are the best candidates. To serve on the Shura, a candidate is required to have been a member of the ISM for the last three years.

Please recommend individuals who you think will be good candidates and the Election Committee will determine if they meet the membership requirements. Please remember that Shura members are NOT paid for their service. Instead, they seek great reward from Allah (SWT).

IS THE ENTIRE SHURA REPLACED EVERY YEAR?

No. A Shura position is held for three years. Each year, there are elections for four or five positions. This staggered system (electing about one-third of the 13 shura members each year) maintains stability and continuity.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A MEMBER OF THE ISM?

Generally, there are two ways that individuals and families can be members of the ISM.

  1. An individual or a family can pay a membership fee. It is $100 per year for a family.

  2. Those who donate $500 or more to the ISM automatically become members in the following calendar year.

INFO ABOUT THE ISM AND HOW IT IS OPERATED

The Islamic Society of Milwaukee was established in 1976, and it owns and operates three Masajid and a full time accredited school from kindergarten to 12th grade. Our first Masjid was established in 1982 at 4707 S. 13th Street. The ISM also owns cemetery lands (in Milwaukee and Brookfield) and has several investment properties.

WHO OVERSEES THE ISM?

The ISM is an organization that is run by an ELECTED, thirteen member Executive Board (a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and nine other positions).

The Executive Board is referred to as the "Shura". The Executive Board members are all volunteers (they are not paid for serving) and they are all elected by the members of the ISM.

Alhamdulillah, the ISM has held yearly elections for decades and the ISM Shura has included brothers and sisters from multiple backgrounds and ethnicities. We are an organization that is firmly committed to our Islamic faith, our beloved Prophet (PBUH) and our country. We stand against rigidity, ideological intolerance, and ethnic or religious division.

Please fill out the nomination form and e-mail it to: [email protected], drop it off at the ISM Office at 13th & Layton, or give it to an Election Committee member: Br. Ayman Alamy, Br. Farouq Saadeh and Sr. Naheed Arshad.
