This year, the event will focus on three legislative proposals:
Count MENA in California
- AB 2763 will require a MENA category to be included in all future collections of demographic data concerning ethnic, racial, or ancestral background by California state departments, commissions, and agencies, encompassing the following identities: Middle Eastern, North African,Transnational Middle Eastern and North African.
K-12 PE Exemption; Fasting
- AB 2377 aims to grant students from kindergarten through 12th grade an exemption from participating in the physical activity components of their PE classes during periods of religious fasting.
Condemning Islamophobia Resolution
Since October 7, there's been a surge in anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian incidents in California and nationwide, including hate crimes. This resolution condemns all forms of Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian discrimination, advocating for tolerance across all backgrounds.
