 Muslim Day At The Capitol 
Monday April 29


This year, the event will focus on three legislative proposals: 

 Count MENA in California  

  • AB 2763 will require a MENA category to be included in all future collections of demographic data concerning ethnic, racial, or ancestral background by California state departments, commissions, and agencies, encompassing the following identities: Middle Eastern, North African,Transnational Middle Eastern and North African. 

K-12 PE Exemption; Fasting  

  • AB 2377 aims to grant students from kindergarten through 12th grade an exemption from participating in the physical activity components of their PE classes during periods of religious fasting.  

Condemning Islamophobia Resolution  
Since October 7, there's been a surge in anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian incidents in California and nationwide, including hate crimes. This resolution condemns all forms of Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian discrimination, advocating for tolerance across all backgrounds.  

Deadline to Apply for Muslim Youth Leadership Program: May 5

Become a change maker alongside fellow Muslim high school students across California. Join CAIR California's Muslim Youth Leadership Program (MYLP)an intensive four-day leadership retreat in Sacramento from Thursday, July 25, to Sunday, July 28.

At MYLP, you will:

  • Dive into advocacy, debate, law, media, and public-policy creation through workshops and even a mock legislative session on the California Senate floor! 
  • Connect with inspiring activists, lawmakers, and Muslim youth leaders.
  • Develop your skills, network, and gain firsthand experience in government.

Spend Your Summer with CAIR-SFBA

Are you interested in gaining hands-on experience in civic engagement, communications, event planning/outreach, law, operations, or youth development? Then apply for our Summer Internship program.

Qualifications:

  • College students pursuing a bachelors degree or an advanced degree or recent graduates (18 and older)
  • Passion and familiarity with CAIR's work
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
