This conversation between Sarah Naibzada, LSW and Dr. Sheikh Faiyaz Jaffer will explore the multifaceted nature of loss, examining how grief manifests physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Loss can come in many forms, such as the loss of loved ones, displacement, or historical trauma, all of which may challenge our wellbeing and our faith in God. Drawing on psychological frameworks and Islamic teachings, we will consider how individuals process grief, the role of memory in healing, and the impact of unresolved loss. By engaging with scholarly insights as well as lived experiences, together we will seek to foster a deeper understanding of grief as both a personal and communal journey, emphasizing compassion, connection, meaning-making, and the impact of centering Allah (swt) in our healing process.

Sarah Naibzada is a first-generation Afghan American. She holds a bachelors degree in sociology from Montclair State University and a masters degree in social work from New York University. As a licensed social worker and therapist, she specializes in the area of oncology, with additional experience in clinical mental health and substance use treatment. Her work with individuals impacted by cancer, combined with her own life experiences, has deepened her understanding of lifes fragility and its effects on relationships and well-being. Committed to advocacy and community support, she strives to uplift marginalized communities by fostering resilience, healing, and empowerment.
