'Unity in Expression: The Creative Voices of Islam'
Saturday, April 26th
4:30 PM
238 Thompson St, New York, NY 10012 - C95 Lecture Hall
Join us for an evening that honors the diverse experiences, identities, and stories within the Muslim community through the powerful medium of poetry and spoken word.
Unity in Expression: The Creative Voices of Islam is more than a showcaseits a celebration of how creativity brings us together. The purpose of this event is to explore how Muslim artists in our community use their creative expression to reflect, celebrate, and navigate their faith. Through an Islamic lens, performers will highlight how art becomes a spiritual practice, a form of resistance, a means of healing, and a tool for connection.
Poetry and spoken word have long held a meaningful place in Islamic culture and tradition. The Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and grant him peace) himself appreciated poetry that praised Allah Most High, spoke of the Hereafter, or inspired reflection. He said: Truly, in some poetry, there is wisdom. [Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud]
- The evening will feature a panel discussion with the artists, diving deeper into their creative journeys and how Islam influences their work. _Well also open the mic to our community_inviting anyone who feels inspired to share their own poetry, spoken word, or reflection.
