Please join the Islamic Center at NYU for our fifth Spiritual Seclusions gathering : A Sacred Silent Hike.

Hiking Location:
South Mountain Reservation
Turtle Back Rock Parking
374 Walker Road
West Orange, NJ 07052

Date/Time/Meet-Up Location:
Sunday, May 25th at 8:30 am Meeting at Penn Station.

Ill be catching the 9:08am train to Newark Penn. Then the 73 Bus to the Northfield Ave/Rock Spring Ave stop. Its then a 10min walk to the Turtle Back Rock Parking Lot and Trailhead.
Trains and buses are relatively frequent and its only a little over an hour from NY Penn to the trailhead.

Hiking Notes:
There are many many trails and loops there. Im considering one that is moderate in difficulty but a little longer than the previous hike so that we can see some water falls.

Last hike was 4.3miles(plus walk to and from station). Elevation gain was 1,140ft
The one Im considering is 5.6miles but has half the elevation gain. It will be less steep than our April hike for sure.

Again, the purpose of leaving early is to make it home early. If anything unexpected happens its best to have more time to make sure everyone gets home safely. If we could leave earlier I would but Alhamdulillah we are beholden to the train schedule.

This adventure halaqa will consist of setting our intentions on heightening our awareness of our natural surroundings and using all of our senses to reflect on the diversity and beauty of creation.

We will be challenging those who join us to practice silence during the hike as well as individual and communal reflections throughout the adventure.

Participants should be mindful that you are bound to break a sweat.
Please come prepared:

  •  a water bottle

  •     lunch, snacks for the day

  •     something lightweight to pray/sit on.

  •     You should wear loose comfortable clothes or active wear.
