Our students decorate the walls of Al-Huda School with a Palestine bulletin board.

Asalaamu-alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

If there’s one thing we can learn from the people in Palestine, it is resilience in the face of great adversity.

Today marks a year since the ongoing crisis in Gaza, but as an Ummah, we know it’s been over 76 years of injustice.

Silence in the face of oppression is never an option for a believer. Our Palestinian brothers and sisters on the ground in Gaza and around the world know that and show up fearlessly day after day. That’s also why our students, alumni, and community members are courageously advocating for Palestine. They are leading on area campuses, at area masajid, and on the boards of national organizations. It’s the reason why Dar-us-Salaam has held multiple initiatives regarding the ongoing crisis over the past year, and why the walls of Al-Huda School are decorated with a bulletin board that celebrates the rich Palestinian history.

We are an Ummah with a mission. A mission to stand for justice.

Allah says in the Qur’an:

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ كُونُوا۟ قَوَّٰمِينَ بِٱلْقِسْطِ شُهَدَآءَ لِلَّهِ وَلَوْ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَوِ ٱلْوَٰلِدَيْنِ وَٱلْأَقْرَبِينَ

(Surah Nisa, Ayah 135)

“O believers! Stand firm for justice as witnesses for Allah even if it is against yourselves, your parents, or close relatives.”

This week, our alumni at the University of Maryland are advocating for Palestine with the Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) movement on campus. Following their recent lawsuit win against the University of Maryland for impending free speech, SJP is hosting events all week to advocate for the liberation and freedom of Palestine, and our alumni are there.

If you are joining any protests, do it peacefully. Remember to stay safe, and keep our Palestinian brothers and sisters in your du’aa. The Palestinian cause is not just for Arabs, Palestinians, or those in the Middle East - it’s our cause collectively as the entire Muslim Ummah. We ask Allah to alleviate their pain and suffering, and grant them peace, safety, and a free Palestine 🇵🇸

Please keep Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and all our brothers and sisters across the world facing oppression in their lands in your du’aa too.

Jazakum Allahu Khairan,
