Job Summary

The Youth Program Director is a visionary and dynamic leader responsible for the spiritual, educational, and social development of youth at Memphis Islamic Center. This role requires a deep commitment to Islamic values, youth empowerment, community building, and collaboration with MIC staff and families. The Youth Program Director will design, implement, and oversee comprehensive programs that engage, inspire, and support the diverse needs of MICs youth.

Key Responsibilities

Program Development & Leadership

  • Design and lead age-appropriate spiritual, educational, and social programming for middle school, high school, and college-aged youth.
  • Create a year-round calendar of events including weekly halaqas, mentorship circles, workshops, service projects, sports, and leadership training.
  • Incorporate Islamic teachings, Quran, Seerah, and relevant spiritual themes into all youth programming.

Mentorship

  • Serve as a positive, accessible mentor and role model for youth, providing spiritual guidance and emotional support.
  • Establish a safe, welcoming environment where youth feel heard, valued, and empowered.
  • Maintain regular office hours for 1-on-1 meetings with youth and parents when needed.

Community Engagement

  • Partner with MIC Imams, khateebs, and board leadership to align youth programming with the masjid's broader vision.
  • Deliver khutbas, lead salah, and post-salah khatiras when scheduled.
  • Foster strong relationships with parents, volunteers, schools, and community partners to enhance youth offerings.
  • Collaborate with other mosques, MSA chapters, and Islamic organizations for joint youth events and regional retreats.

Administration & Communication

  • Manage youth program budgets, registration, and event logistics with support from administrative staff.
  • Maintain regular communication with youth and parents via newsletters, social media, and WhatsApp groups.
  • Collect feedback and assess program effectiveness through surveys, evaluations, and regular reporting to leadership.

Volunteer & Staff Oversight

  • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of youth advisors, counselors, and volunteers.

  • Develop a culture of youth leadership through peer mentorship, youth boards, or internship opportunities.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in Islamic Studies, Education, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience working with Muslim youth in educational, community, or religious settings.
  • Deep understanding of Islamic principles and youth culture in North America.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to relate to and inspire youth across age groups and backgrounds.

Preferred:

  • Formal Islamic education or training from a recognized institute.
  • Experience in conflict resolution, counseling, or mentorship programs.
  • Familiarity with tech tools and social media for outreach and program delivery.

Work Schedule & Compensation

  • Full-time (including evenings and weekends for events/programs).
  • Salary commensurate with experience.
