A New Hijri Year 1447
We didnt notice it right away.
There was no countdown, no fireworks, just a quiet morning, a date on the calendar: 1st of Muharram, 1447.
And yet something in the heart stirred.
This year feels different. Heavier somehow. Maybe its the images that wont leave our screens, the heartbreak, the unrest around the world, the ache in our own communities. Maybe its the way grief and hope now live side by side, no longer taking turns.
Still, this new Hijri year whispered something soft:
Youre still here. What will you do with that?
A Sacred Beginning
The Hijri calendar doesnt begin with a celebration; it begins with Hijrah. With sacrifice, with trust.
The Prophet didnt walk into a new year with ease. He migrated through uncertainty, loss, and challenge, yet with complete conviction that Allah would guide every step.
Maybe we are being asked to do the same.
Maybe this is our Hijrah, not across a desert, but across the landscapes of our own hearts.
Leaving behind what no longer serves us.

The SALAM Center for Higher Islamic Learning is honored to welcome Dr. Imam Sherif Ahmed as a Visiting Faculty Member for the Fall 2025 semester.
Dr. Imam Sherif Ahmed is the Co-Founder and Dean of the Tarbiya Institutes Seminary and currently serves as a Visiting Scholar at Bayan Islamic Graduate School. A seasoned educator and entrepreneur, Dr. Sherif brings over two decades of experience in faith-based leadership, institutional development, and community education. His academic journey includes studies in English Literature, Business Administration, and Islamic Studies. He holds a Masters degree in Strategic Business Unit Management from HEC Paris and a Doctorate in Nonprofit Leadership and Management from the University of Colorado. He is also in the process of completing a Masters degree in Islamic Studies at Chicago Theological Seminary.
Insha'a Allah, Dr. Sherif will serve in the English Track of the Seminary Program at SALAM Center for Higher Islamic Learning, where he is scheduled to teach "The Art of Dhikr and Dua" during the Fall 2025 semester. His addition to the faculty reflects a meaningful advancement of SALAMs mission of spiritual development, academic excellence, and community empowerment.
We warmly invite our community to join us in making dua for Dr. Sherif, asking Allah SWT to increase him in beneficial knowledge, and make him a source of guidance and mentorship for all those seeking purpose and belonging. We also ask Allah SWT to bless the leadership of SALAM with wisdom, sincerity, and success. May He place abundant barakah in our community, unite our hearts, and guide us in building a vibrant and compassionate future. Ameen.
