The ICC-GC Board of Directors cordially invites the ICC-GC community and supporters to the fifth lecture of the ICC-GC Annual Lectures, planned and organized by the ICC-GC Annual Lectures Program Committee.
 

Lecture Title:

Reading the Religio-Philosophical Concept of Tawheed (Monotheism) and Its Implications

Speaker:

Wayel Azmeh, MD, MA (University of Dayton), MA (University of Chicago)

Dr. Wayel Azmeh is a retired cardiologist from Dayton, Ohio. He grew up in Damascus, Syria, before coming to America in 1985. Over the last thirty years, he has spoken at numerous forums concerning Islam and Muslims in America. Dr. Azmeh took early retirement to pursue two masters degrees: one in English Composition and Rhetoric from the University of Dayton (2016) and another in Divinity Islamic Studies from the University of Chicago (2019)

His publications include the essay "Corporal Punishment Verses in the Qur'an Are to Be Reinterpreted to Counter Violent Extremist Practices" (2015) and "Misconceptions About the Caliphate in Islam" (2016). He has also authored several unpublished research papers. Dr. Azmehs primary focus is on Islamic reformation and the relationship between Sharia and the state.
