Effective January 1st, 2025

We hope this message finds you in the best state of physical and spiritual health. The Board of the Memphis Islamic Center is pleased to announce the addition of three (3) new trustees to the Board of Trustees. Through the process, we received several excellent nominees which made it a hard decision but we believe we chose the best possible fit for MIC to serve the community. We are very excited to welcome the following distinguished community members to the MIC leadership team.

Dr. Hassan Almoazen

Dr. Hassan Almoazen earned his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Damascus University and his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York. After a career in the pharmaceutical industry at Novartis and Wyeth, he joined the University of Tennessee Health Science Center UTHSC as a faculty in the College of Pharmacy where he earned a national and international reputation. He is currently an Associate Professor of Pharmaceutics and the Director of the PhD program in Pharmaceutical Sciences. He trained many graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, authored many publications in drug delivery and formulation science, received numerous grants and earned multiple US and international patents and is interested in entrepreneurship. Dr. Almoazen has served on the boards of several Islamic organizations in Memphis. He has been on the board of Masjid Alnoor, the Muslim Society of Memphis, Masjid ArRahman, and joined several committees with the Memphis Islamic Center (MIC) and Pleasant View School (PVS). He and his wife Joumana are raising 4 children (Sara, Massa, Dalia, and Adnan). He enjoys science, learning about Islam, Quran, and Sunnah. As a new incoming board member of MIC, he is interested in strengthening the current educational, social, and athletic programs for families who are eager to connect with the community at MIC and is looking forward to establishing new mentorship programs for current and future college students, as well as connecting the MIC to prestigious Islamic Universities as a satellite campus and future hub for an Arabic and Quranic Institute of Memphis.

Dr. Junaid Zaidi

Dr. Junaid Zaidi is a Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine physician, living in Memphis for the last 21 years. He has been volunteering at the Memphis Muslim Clinic since 2006. He has also served on the board for Methodist LeBonheur Health Care for 5 years. Dr. Zaidi was given a community service award by the Pakistan Association of Memphis in 2018 and has arranged multiple fundraisers in the last 20 years for nonprofit organizations like Unity Production Foundation, Indus Hospital Pakistan and Pakistan kidney Institute. He lives in Collierville with his wife Amna Zaidi MD, and 3 kids Humzah 16, Sarah 9, and Maryam 7. He is looking forward to serving the community to the best of abilities as a MIC board member.

Sr. Maryam Taysir

Maryam Taysir was raised in the vibrant Muslim community of Memphis. She is a proud graduate of Pleasant View School, an institution that instills the values of Ihsaan and a commitment to serving the community for the sake of Allah. She attended Rhodes College, where she co-founded Students for Justice in Palestine and actively served on the Muslim Student Association board. Following her graduation, Maryam was honored to be selected as an Emerson Hunger Fellow, where she had the opportunity to deepen her advocacy and research skills in Washington, DC.
