3 Sunnahs for Ramadan

As we anticipate the blessed month of Ramadan, let's also embrace the sunnahs of fasting and eating. Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, exemplified these 3 simple but impactful practices:

1. Breaking fast with dates or water

The Prophet used to break his fast with fresh dates before he prayed. If he did not find fresh dates then he would use dried dates. If he did not find that also he drank a few sips of water."

2. Sharingmeals with family or friends

"Some of the Companions said, We eat but are not satisfied. He said, Perhaps you eat separately. The Companions replied in affirmative. He then said, Eat together and mention the Name of Allah over your food. It will be blessed for you."

3. Followingthe rule for eating, drinking, and breathing.

"The human does not fill any container that is worse than his stomach. It is sufficient for the son of Adam to eat what will support his back. If this is not possible, then a third for food, a third for drink, and third for his breath."

Try adding thesefoods into your meals for suhoor (pre-dawn meal) or iftar (breaking of the fast).
