Jumuah Mubarak

Jumuah Mubarak to our dearbrothers and sisters!

The day of Ashura (10th of Muharram) will be this coming Tuesday. Let us reflect upon what this day holds in weight based upon the hadith in Bukhari and Muslim below.

Upon arriving in Medina, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, observed the Jews fasting on Ashura. Curious, heasked about the significance of this day. They revealed that it commemorated the day Allah the Exalted saved Prophet Musa (Moses), peace be upon him, and his people, while Pharaoh and his followers were punished. In gratitude, Prophet Musa, peace be upon him, fasted on this day, and the Jews continued this practice in his honor.

The Messenger of Allah then declared, "We are more worthy and closerto Moses than you**".** Embracing unity and gratitude, he fasted on Ashura and commanded his followers to do the same.

This hadith reminds us of the common threads that bind us to the prophets of old, emphasizing the unity and solidarity of all believers.

It also urges usto reflect on the struggles of the past and draw lessons from them to face our trials today with unwavering conviction in Allah the Exalted and His plan as He is the Best of Planners.

When the two groups came face to face, the companions of Moses cried out, We are overtaken for sure. Moses reassured them, Absolutely not! My Lord is certainly with meHe will guide me. (SurahShu'ara 26:61-62)

The reward of fasting upon this day "will expiate the sins of the past year" (Muslim 1162) so be sure to not miss out on doing so.

Fasting the day before and after it is also recommended.

Ibn Hajar said, The fast of Ashura has three levels: the lowest is to fast one day, the next is to fast the ninth day along with it, and the next is to fast the ninth, tenth, and eleventh days. Allah knows best.

Ya Rabb (Lord), guide our hearts and limbs with steadfastness in our hijrah (migration) to You, just as You did for the Beloved Prophet and Prophet Musa, peace be upon him. Help our weak hearts overcome its lowly desires and the delusions of this dunya(worldly life) to facilitate our journey of obedience and slavehood to You alone. Accept our sincere repentance and shower us with the gift of Your boundless forgiveness and mercy with our bad deeds transforming into those beloved to You. Grant relief and victory to the Ummah of Your Beloved Prophet .
