General Body Meeting 6:30 PM March 3rd 2024

MAV Annual General Body Meeting will be on Sunday March 03, 2024 at 6:30 PM immediately after Maghreb Salaah. The General Body meeting is open to the public. All voting members (those who are members for at least one year) are being requested to attend, to meet the required quorum.
There will be elections for two (2) Board members. MAV Board consists of 11 members; currently, nine (9) Directors are on the board. The election will be done by electronic early voting; MAV Election Committee will email each voting member with instructions on securely logging in to cast a vote. Paper ballots will be available on the General Body meeting day to those Voting members who did not vote online.

Meet The Candidates
Carole Whittaker Ahmed
· Converted to Islam in 1982. MAV member since 1999 and subsequently became a Life Member. Volunteer service and support for the MAV Ummah since 1999. Served as Secretary on the MAV BOD. Published monthly MAV newsletter.
· Master’s - Library and Information Science - Catholic University of America
Bachelor’s - Environmental Science - University of Mary Washington
· Currently working as the Assistant Branch Manager/Information Services Manager at the Potomac Community Library.
· Won the National Endowment for the Humanities Bridging Cultures: Muslim Journeys Bookshelf grant for the Prince William Public Library System and held a series of programs in the public libraries for 2 years to help those in the larger community learn about Muslims and Islam. The Muslim Journeys series culminated in a visit to Dar AlNoor, which is still discussed and much appreciated by participants. Held the monthly Bridging Cultures Book Club at Dar alNoor, a partnership between the Prince William Public Library System and the Muslim Association of Virginia. I regularly present Ramadan programs and book displays about Muslims and Islam at the library to promote understanding and make our Ummah feel welcome in PWC.
· Serves on the Election Chief’s Team at the Dar al Noor Precinct at all national and local elections.
· Currently serving 3rd term as 2nd VP for Hunters Ridge HOA.
· Married for 42 years, mother of 3 and grandmother of 4.
· With Allah SWT’s help, I will do my best to serve our ummah where I am most needed.
Akh Da'in Johnson
Akh Da’in Johnson, a devoted member of MAV since the early 2000s, has played an integral role in shaping the organization's foundation and growth. His longstanding commitment predates the construction of the Dar al Noor Center, displaying a dedication that spans over two decades.
With a wealth of experience, Akh Da’in has significantly contributed to MAV's development. He led the revision of MAV's by-laws, providing a strong legal foundation, and served as a legal advisor for the organization five years ago. His leadership extends to various roles and posts over the past 20 plus years, including chairman, vice president, and secretary, demonstrating a consistent and enduring commitment to MAV's growth and success.
A standout achievement lies in his extensive contribution as MAV's Chairman of Education. Over the years, he served as Sunday School Principal, meticulously establishing and overseeing Quran School and Summer Camp programs for the community's children, youth, and adolescents. This hands-on involvement has made him a recognizable figure, known for fostering educational initiatives that benefit the community at large.
Akh Da’in's influence extends beyond the organization, actively participating in civic, social, and political endeavors at both county and state levels. His multifaceted engagement has elevated MAV's public profile, making him a valuable asset to the organization's Board of Directors. With an unwavering commitment and a proven track record of service, Akh Da’in Johnson is poised to bring continued success to MAV's future endeavors, iA.
