New Imam Announcement
As salam wa alaykum,
Please join us in the honor of welcoming Shaykh Sami Rehman, as the new Imam and Religious Director at Evergreen Islamic Center.
He will be the Khateeb at both Jumu'ah prayers this Friday. Additionally, there will be a Meet and Greet with Shaykh Rehman at EIC on Friday, August 1st, at 8:30 p.m., following Maghrib.
Shaykh Sami Rehman is a Bay Area native dedicated to serving the Muslim community through scholarship, teaching, and community engagement. In 2014, he completed his memorization of the Qur’an (if) and began pursuing traditional Islamic studies. He earned a B.A. in Islamic Law and Theology and an M.A. in Classical Muslim Texts with a specialization in Islamic philosophy. His studies have also included training with scholars in the Bay Area, Jordan, Egypt, and Syria, through which he received multiple teaching licenses (ijzt) in the Islamic sciences.
Shaykh Sami’s areas of study span a wide range of disciplines, including fiqh (Islamic law), kalm (theology), tafsr (Qur’anic exegesis), adth, logic, philosophy, Arabic linguistics, ul al-fiqh (legal theory), and tazkiya (ethics and spirituality). He has taught these subjects in various settings across the Bay Area and internationally in Jordan, Egypt, and Syria.
In addition to his academic and teaching roles, Shaykh Sami has served the Bay Area community through khubas (Friday sermons), public lectures, halaqas, and educational workshops. From 2022 to 2024, he served as a Community Engagement Coordinator at CAIR-SFBA, conducting outreach and delivering presentations on civil rights and immigration. He has also held roles in nonprofit management and development.
He is the co-founder of Hashimi House, a publishing initiative focused on making the core texts of the Islamic intellectual tradition accessible in English, with a particular emphasis on Islamic spirituality and foundational curriculum works. He is currently engaged in teaching, writing, and translating within these fields.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Imam Zabid for his time and commitment at EIC. The community will always be grateful for his kindness and the programs that he organized for this masjid.
Jazakallahhu Khayran
