Islamic New Year 1446 - Muharram
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The new crescent has not been seen tonight. Therefore, the first day of Muharram will be Sunday, July 7, 2024.  Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar, marking the start of the new year - 1446.
Muharram is one of the four sacred months. While Muharram may not be as well known, it is an important time of the year as Allah ( ) tells us to "wrong not yourselves therein
[Surat at-Tawbah 9:36].
A man came to the Prophet ( ) and said: 'Which fasting is better after the month of Ramadan?' He said: 'The month of Allah which is called Muharram.' [Ibn Majah]
During this sacred month, the rewards for our good deeds are multiplied. Here are some ways to honor Muharram:Â
- Fast: It's recommended to fast on the 9th and 10th of Muharram (the day of Ashura)
- Read the Qur'an
- Give Sadaqah
As we welcome the new Islamic year 1446, may our hearts be filled with gratitude for the blessings we've received, our souls be purified through repentance and reflection, and our lives be guided by the light of faith. May this new year bring us closer to Allah ( ) and to each other, and may we be inspired to live with purpose, compassion, and kindness.
We pray that Allah ( ) blesses you and your family in this new year and rewards us all for our Ibadaat with Jannah. Ameen.
