Fasting on the day of Ashura

Ashura 1446 AH

Assalamu Alaikum,

Alhamdulillah, we are in the month of Muharram, one of the four sacred months in the Islamic calendar. In this month, we are encouraged to increase our good deeds such as giving to charity, performing voluntary prayers, fasting, engaging in dhikr, and reciting the Quran.

It is recommended to fast on Ashura which is July 16th, 2024 (10th day of Muharram). One may fast on the 9th (Monday) and the 10th (Tuesday), or the 10th and 11th (Wednesday), or all three days - and Allah (swt) knows best.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: "Fasting on the day of Ashura', I hope that Allah SWT will expiate thereby for the year that came before it" [Sahih Muslim].

Also, the Prophet (PBUH) said: "The best of fasting after Ramadan is fasting Allah's month of Muharram" [Muslim]

Iftar will be served by Jerusalem Market at 8:30 pm ONLY Tuesday, July 16.

May Allah (swt) accept our fasting and forgive our sins. Ameen.
