The Norristown Islamic Society (NIS) Board of Trustees would like to invite all NIS community members to attend the General Assembly Meeting scheduled for Saturday, January 6th, 2024, after Maghrib which is at 5:30 pm, Insha'Allah.
Agenda:
- Annual Update (Construction, Imam, Programs, and Finances)
- Election of New Board members
- Start, Stop and Continue Workshop
The new Board Members will be elected for 4 and 5 years respectively.

Board of Trustees
a) The Board, as elected representative of the General Assembly, is responsible for the overall management of Norristown Islamic Society to assure adherence to the stated objectives and policies.
b) The Board is the primary Policy-making body, subject only to the advice or consent of General Assembly as and when the General Assembly is in session.
c) The Board shall have five (5) members elected by the General Assembly, and will hold meetings as necessary but no less than once every month.
d) The Board shall guide the Operating Council regarding policies and practices of Norristown Islamic Society.
e) The Board shall document and maintain all the records. The Operating Council President shall provide all important documents originals to the Board for safe keeping.
f) The Board shall appoint Standing Committees. These shall include Zakat Committee, Cemetery Committee and Islamic School Committee. A Board of Trustee member shall chair each Standing Committee. Only members of Norristown Islamic Society shall be included in the Standing Committees.
g) The Board and the Operating Council may constitute Ad-hoc Committees as necessary to plan and execute specialized functions of Norristown Islamic Society. Other committee members shall be members of Norristown Islamic Society.
h) Chairperson of the Islamic School Committee shall report directly to the Board. He/she shall recommend a member of Norristown Islamic Society to be the School Director of the Weekend Islamic School for consent by the Board. School Director shall serve a one-year term (July 1 to June 30). The school structure and policies are stated in Appendix II.
i) The Board shall plan annual fundraising program with the help of Operating Council, and raise funds for various projects of Norristown Islamic Society as required.
j) The Board may disqualify a Board member from his/her position for missing three consecutive Board meetings and failing to provide a satisfactory reason.
