Tips on making the most of Ramadan

Dear brothers and sisters,

I pray that Allah accept your fasts, prayers, supplications and those of the entire Muslim community in Canada and our Ummah worldwide.

We are halfway through the blessed month of Ramadan. Ibn Taymiyyah said: Thelesson lies in the perfection of the conclusion of a thing, not in the shortcomings of the beginning of it. Let us strive to end better than we started.

As for those who strive hard in Us (Our Cause), We will surely guide them to Our Paths . And verily, Allah is with the good doers

Let us remember the brave men and women resisting injustice & occupation of their land and holy places and defending the honour of our Ummah. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) informed us of a night more significant than Laylatul Qadr: the night of a guardian who stands watch in a land of fear, uncertain if they will ever return to their family.

May Allah SWT provide solace to our brethren in Palestine and Sudan, guiding them, nourishing the hungry, showing mercy to those who have passed, healing the wounded, vanquishing their foes, and transforming this holy month into a period of triumph, empowerment, and awakening for the Ummah.

Throughout this Ramadan, let us strive to be counted of those who supported our brothers and sisters in Palestine, Sudan and around the world in every possible way, through our duaa, advocacy and donations. May we be recognized as those who stood in solidarity with them.

"Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best guardian. There is no power or strength except through Allah, the High, the Great."

With warm regards,

Abdullatif Bakbak

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

"Whoever fasts the month of Ramadan due to faith and seeking reward, their previous sins will be forgiven. Whoever stands in prayer during the Night of Decree (laylatul qadr) due to faith and seeking reward, their previous sins will be forgiven."

Tips on making the most of Ramadan

Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, personal growth, self-discipline, and increased worship. It is important to push ourselves but striving against our nafs (ego and desires). Here are some tips to help you make the most of the two remaining weeks of Ramadan.

  • Select one bad habit and make the intention to get rid of it, especially in Ramadan (ex. watching movies or tv shows). Replace it with a good habit!

  • Give charity. To support MAC programs, please consider

  • Replace one thing you waste time on with reading the Quran.

  • Listen to a YouTube lecture (Ramadan series, Tafseer, etc)

  • Pray tahajjud in the masjid or at home. Do not forget to make dua while in sujud.

  • Do daily thikr (remembrance of Allah)

  • Spend some time in the masjid in the last 10 nights of Ramadan.

  • Do not forget your zakat al fitr and zakat al mal, if you haven't done so.
