MUSLIM ASSOCIATION OF BOLINGBROOK
Jumu'ah Incident - 08/30/2024
As Salamu Alykum MAB Community Members,
We hope this message finds you in good health and the highest level of Iman. We want to take a moment to emphasize the critical role that our volunteers play in the success of our organization.
Unfortunately, we must address a concerning incident that occurred last week during the second Jumu'ah prayer at Masjid al-Jumu’ah. A volunteer was assaulted in the parking lot and the situation escalated to the point where police had to be called. Charges have been filed against the individual involved, and is likely to face legal consequences soon. This incident is deeply concerning and serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding Islamic values, which create mutual respect in all our interactions.
Given this incident, we must stress the importance of showing respect to our volunteers and complying with their instructions. Our volunteers are the backbone of our Masajid operations. Their efforts deserve to be met with appreciation, cooperation, and kindness. These individuals selflessly dedicate their time, energy, and passion to ensure that our MAB events, programs, and services run smoothly for the benefit of our community.
We want to make it very clear that MAB has a zero-tolerance policy for anyone who harms, threatens, or disrespects our volunteers. MAB is fully committed to protecting our volunteers and will utilize all available resources to ensure that anyone responsible for such behavior is held accountable. This includes pressing charges against anyone who fails to respect MAB properties, its personnel and most importantly, MAB volunteers. Additionally, in cases where our volunteers are harmed, MAB will always provide video footage to attorneys and law enforcement agencies when requested.
If you find yourself in disagreement with a volunteer, we ask that you contact the Office to resolve the issue amicably.
Jazakum Allahu Khairan for your understanding and continued support to maintain a positive environment at MAB facilities for everyone, especially our youth who learn from our example.
