Dhul-Hijjah

Dhul-Hijjah, the twelfth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is a sacred and spiritually rich time. The first ten days of this month are among the most beloved to Allah ﷻ. These days are an opportunity to increase in worship through prayer, fasting, dhikr, charity, and recitation of the Qur’an, as we seek nearness to Allah and His mercy.

The 9th day of Dhul-Hijjah is the Day of Arafat, the most significant day of the Hajj pilgrimage. On this day, pilgrims stand on the plain of Arafat, praying and seeking forgiveness. For those not performing Hajj, fasting on the Day of Arafat is a great act of worship as it expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year.

This sacred time is a chance to renew your intentions, increase your good deeds, and sincerely turn back to Allah. Make the most of these blessed days, especially the Day of Arafat, through du‘a, fasting, and remembrance.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “The best supplication is the supplication on the Day of ‘Arafah, and the best words that I and the prophets before me have said are ‘La ilaha illa Allah, wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa ala kulli shayin qadeer’.” [Tirmidhi]

Dua for the Day of Arafat:

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ ، وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ ، وهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

“None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without a partner. To Him belongs sovereignty and all praise and He is over all things omnipotent.”
