Happy New Islamic Year 1446 AH

July

15th & 16th
OR
16th & 17th are the fasting days

On this occasion of a new Islamic year, we pray Allah (swt) marks this year with blessings for you and your loved ones.

Muharram holds a special place in the hearts of Muslims worldwide, as it not only marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar but also holds significant historical importance. We reflect on the triumph of Prophet Musa , and upon the sacrifices made by Prophet Muhammad's grandson Al-Husayn and his family to carry forth the message of Islam against injustice. May God's blessings be upon them and all who follow in their footsteps. May we draw lessons in dignity and commitment to faith through these examples.

We fast because it is the Sunnah of our Prophet Muhammad (saw). When the Prophet (saw) emigrated to Madinah he found the Jews fasting on the 10th of Muharram, because their Prophet Moses (as) fasted in gratitude of Allah (swt) for saving him and his followers from the Pharaoh. There upon Prophet (saw)  started to fast as well and ordered the Muslims to fast too. Narrated by Ibn Abbas (Sahih Al-Bukhari).
Abu Qatada relates that the Holy Prophet (saw) said that the fast on the 10th of Muharram atones for the sins of the preceding year. [Sahih Muslim]
Also, fasting the 9th of Muharram is highly recommended by the Prophet (saw). Imam At-Tirmidhi reported that Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say: We should fast on two days: the 9th and 10th of Muharram to distinguish ourselves from the Jewish community. (At-Tirmidhi)
