Assalam Alaikum Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Alhamdulillah, by the grace of Allah, we are hopeful of the start of a ceasefire in Gaza. This Wednesday after isha (September 22), we want to take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate the relief to our Palestinian brothers and sisters whose lives have been upended by the relentless genocide that has claimed far too many innocent lives. The suffering, trauma, and loss endured by the Palestinian people over these past months are unimaginable, and this Wednesday we will gather to honor the resilience and strength they continue to show in the face of unspeakable hardship. Please bring a sweet to share with the community!

We are grateful to Allah for this development as it offers a glimmer of hope for our brothers and sisters in Gaza. However, it is crucial that we do not lose sight of the broader contextthe ongoing and systemic oppression that has characterized the Palestinian experience for decades. The violence we have witnessed is part of a larger cycle that has resulted in the genocide of the Palestinian people, marked by displacement, dehumanization, and denial of basic human rights.

It is not enough to simply achieve a ceasefire; we must work towards lasting peace based on justice. True peace will only come when the rights of all people are respected, and when the Palestinian people can live in freedom, with their land and their future secure. The world must not turn its back on the calls for accountability and for the protection of human rights. In the following months, it will also be crucial that we continue our support of aid for those in Gaza to rebuild their lives and their communities insha'allah.
