Quran

We have given you the seven oft-repeated verses and the glorious Qurn.

(Surah Al-Hijr, ayah 87)

This refers to the opening verse of the Quran known as Al-Faithah. This opening praises God, asks for guidance, testifies that God is the Lord of the Universe and accepts that we constantly need Him to remain on the right path. These 7 verses are recited in every prayer, at least twice and are a constant method of praising and turning to God for guidance and assistance.

Hadith

It was narrated that Abu Saeed Al-Khudri (RA) said: The Messenger of Allah () used to start his prayer by saying:

Subhanaka Allahumma wa bi hamdika, wa tabarakas-muka, wa taala jadduka, wa la ilaha ghairuka
(Glory and praise be to You, O Allah, blessed be Your Name and exalted be Your majesty, none has the right to be worshipped but you).

(Sunan Ibn Majah 804, Book 5, Hadith 2)

The prayer always begins with the praise of Allah. Understanding what you are reciting can help the heart incline more towards why you are performing the prayer and increase sincerity. Look at the meanings of what you recite and find beauty in all aspects of your Salah.

Islamic Knowledge

Holding Muslim Women In Esteem

Mahasin D. Shamsid-Deen

Islam improves and enhances the culture within a nation and improves the lives of citizens, especially the women. Islam brings balance and order to societies. In the history of humankind, there is a tendency toward unfairness and subjugation of women. In Islam, we know this is wrong.

Many cultures do not value the lives of women. Historical misconceptions and superstitions may paint women as witches or creatures that are not equal or as capable as men in spiritual matters and belief. Many cultures view women as expendable to society or exploit women and take away their rights to have any assets or self-determination. Islam takes away those injustices.

Believers:

  • The Quran teaches humankind that both men and women are capable and expected to submit to Allah and that they work together towards that goal.

**The believers, both men and women, are allies of one another*****. They enjoin good, forbid evil, establish Prayer, pay Zakah, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Surely Allah will show mercy to them. Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise (***9:7).

Right To Live:

  • Womens life is valuable and substantial, as the Quran forbade female infanticide (practiced in pre-Islamic Arabia and in other parts of the world) and teaches the disbeliever that such actions are sinful.
***And when the female infant buried alive is asked for what sin was she killed (***81: 8-9).

Preserve And Protect Wealth:

  • The Quran teaches us that women, especially orphans or women under the care of others due to diminished resources, will retain the wealth and property owed to them. In fact, it is an obligation to bestow it upon them. Wealth lends to status and self-determination which is often challenged in many cultures.
and for the women a portion of what is left by parents and near relatives what is little of it or much, a portion obligatory (4:7)

Not Deliberately Impoverished Or Slandered:

  • In the Quran Allah instructs us that women are not thrown out of marriages on a whim and then forced to leave penniless or with their wealth taken from them.  That wealth is not just financial, but the affluence of a good name and reputation which allows them to live peacefully and respectfully in the society.
then do not take away from it anything. Would you take it by slander and a sin open? (4:20)

No Forced Marriages Or Prostitution:

  • Again, the Quran ensures that women are not exploited and used by evil men in society. Men are explicitly warned not to force women into marriage or take advantage of and misuse vulnerable women in the society. In the Mercy that only comes from Allah, He teaches us that if a woman finds herself in this predicament, that the sin belongs to the oppressor, not she who is oppressed and thus Allah will forgive and be merciful towards her.
O you who have believed, it is not lawful for you to inherit women by compulsion (4:19).

Do not force your slave girls into prostitution for your own worldly gains while they wish to remain chaste. And if someone coerces them, then after such a coercion Allah is certainly All-Forgiving, Most Merciful to them (24:

Kaffir Leaves Nutrition Facts

Kaffir lime leaves are oblong-shaped, dark green, glossy leaves, growing in pairs of a plant in the citrus (Rutaceae) family. The leaves, as well as the fruit, are full of citrus flavor that gives the distinctive lemon aroma and flavor to Thai, Malay, and Indonesian cooking.

Scientific name: Citrus hystrix.

Also known by Makrut limes, Bai Magrood, Thai lime, Limau Puru, etc., the kaffir lime plant is closely related to orangeslemons, pomelos, and grapefruit.

The kaffir lime tree is a thorny bush native to tropical Southeast Asia that can grow to be 3-5 meters in height. Its cultivation has spread to neighboring regions through exporters and trade routes.

The leaves of the kaffir lime are thick, dark green color with a glossy sheen, grow in pairs, and look like a figure of eight, measuring 3-5 centimeters in diameter and 7-10 centimeters in length.

Kaffir lime leaves and peels are aromatic and used as spices for various flavoring purposes such as seasoning or preparing savory curry pastes.

Kaffir lime fruit

Kaffir lime fruit is a small orange-sized citrus fruit from this bush, which has a thick peel with a bumpy surface.

They are green when raw and turn greenish-yellow when fully ripe. They are used to prepare pickles, sherbet, and acidifying agents in curries in Southeast Asian cooking.

Health benefits of kaffir lime

  1. Kaffir lime leaves and fruit peel contains the essential oil citronellal which is responsible for the citrus fragrance to it. The other main components are limonene, nerol, and pinene.

  2. Kaffir lime leaves, used for fragrance in cooking, contain many notable plant-derived compounds, minerals, and vitamins that are essential for optimum health.

  3. Fresh leaves of makrut lime are low in calories. Nonetheless, they carry ample amounts of soluble and insoluble fiber that helps in the reduction of serum LDL cholesterol levels as well as in smooth bowel movements.

  4. Its fresh leaves and herb parts are very rich in folates. Folates are important in DNA synthesis and when given during the peri-conception period can help prevent neural tube defects in the baby.

  5. Kaffir lime leaves are an excellent source of vitamin A, carotenes, and xanthin anti-oxidants. Consumption of natural foods rich in carotenoid compounds and vitamin A has been found to help protect from lung and oral cavity cancers.

  6. The zesty leaves are a very good source of many vitamins such as thiamin, niacin, pyridoxine, pantothenic acid, and riboflavin. These B-complex groups of vitamins help in enzyme synthesis, nervous system function, and regulating body metabolism.

  7. Kaffir lime leaves also contain a good amount of minerals like calcium, copper, iron, potassium, magnesium, manganese, zinc, and selenium.

Medicinal uses of makrut (kaffir) lime leaves and fruits

  • The leaf extracts were reported to have antioxidant, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory activities.

  • In Thailand, makrut lime juice is employed to cleanse the blood, improve appetite, and keep skin and hair in good health.

  • They are also believed to have cancer-fighting and liver-protecting properties.
