National March on Washington for Gaza

On Jan. 13, 2024, in the wee hours before the call for Fajr prayer, members of the ISAK community climbed the steps of the buses headed to Washington D.C. The winds blew flurries of snow and sleet into the wide windshield of the bus. It obstructed their vision of the road ahead, but the riders remained steadfast to their journey to the first protest of the year for Palestinian liberation and a ceasefire in the Gaza strip.

This endeavor came just a few days before the 100th day since the escalation of violence and mass murder intensified, bringing the death count of Palestinian lives lost to 30,000, with over 60,834 others sustaining life altering wounds. The occupation has targeted Palestinian doctors, journalists, EMT services and most of all civilians, with claims of defending themselves against terrorism. Their unrelenting violence has triggered outrage all over the world with millions of people calling for the end of the occupiers reign in the Palestinian lands.

In our millions, in our billions we are all Palestinian, protestors chanted in front of the American symbol of democracy and freedom. The White House represents these characteristics for many Americans, but stands as a house of war for many Muslims and immigrants living in the U.S. It is in this house that decisions were made for the profit of weapon manufacturers and suppliers at the expense of American taxpayers and civilians in Palestine, Yemen, Lebanon, Congo and Syria.

In this coming election, voters will follow voting trends and popularity ballots, dismissing the violent agenda many of the candidates have towards Muslims and people of color living in and out of the United States.

We must hold our lawmakers accountable in November. As Muslims and people of faith, we must stand for the weak and the helpless. We must speak out in solidarity with those who have been wronged and given an unjust sentence of famine and violent scrutiny from the Holy Land of Jerusalem to the sacred land of Sana'a, Yemen.

The group of ISAK protestors began their trip to D.C. with a prayer to Allah (God) asking for goodwill, safety, ease of heart and mind, and patience for the Palestinians. As they arrived back to the ISAK mosque after a long day of cold and bitter winds, the protestors returned knowing that although the change they were fighting for wouldnt come tonight, it would come soon. For it is written in the words of our Creator that justice will be served, that the blood and tears of our martyrs in Palestine will not be washed away in vain. It is written that we will once again walk in our Holy Lands of Jerusalem as free people; Palestinian and non-Palestinians alike. God willing, it is close. May we all live to see the liberation and vindication of our Palestinian brothers and sisters. Ameen.
