Reminder from ICCD President Imad Achmar
Seek Refuge with Allah!
Dear ICCD community members,
AssalamuAlaikum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatuh
I am writing to you as a fellow Muslim who cares about the well-being of our ICCD community. I want to talk to you about a serious issue that affects many of us, whether we realize it or not. It is the issue of the evil eye.
Our Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him) confirmed that the evil eye is real and capable of causing harm or misfortune. He said: The evil eye is real, and if anything were to overtake the divine decree (al-qadar) it would be the evil eye.
The evil eye can affect anyone, regardless of their age, gender, status, or wealth. It can also affect our ICCD community as a whole, by creating division, resentment, mistrust, and hatred among us. The evil eye can weaken our faith, our unity, and our productivity.
How can we protect ourselves and our ICCD community from the evil eye?
There are several ways that Islam teaches us to do so. Here are some of them:
-
Seek refuge with Allah from the evil eye. Allah says in the Quran:Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of the Dawn, from the mischief of created things; from the mischief of darkness as it overspreads; from the mischief of those who practice secret arts; and from the mischief of the envious one as he practices envy. We should recite this surah (chapter) and other protective supplications regularly, especially in the morning and evening, and when we see something that we like or admire.
-
Praise Allah for His blessings and gifts. The Prophet (peace be upon him) rebuked followers who admired someone or something without praising Allah. He said: Why would one of you kill his brother? If you see something that you like, then pray for blessing for him. We should always say Masha Allah, that is, God has willed it, or invoke Gods blessings upon the object or person that we admire. We should also thank Allah for everything that He has given us and be content with His decree.
-
We should avoid using any symbols or practices that are associated with shirk (associating partners with Allah) or magic, as these are forbidden in Islam.
-
Avoid casting the evil eye on others. We should be mindful of our thoughts and feelings towards others and avoid looking at them with envy or malice. We should also avoid complimenting them too much or excessively praising them, as this may cause them harm. We should instead wish good for them and be happy for their success. We should also purify our hearts from any negative emotions, such as greed, hatred, arrogance, or pride, and replace them with positive ones, such as gratitude, love, humility, and generosity.
The evil eye is a serious matter that we should not take lightly. It can affect us and our ICCD community in many ways, and we should do our best to protect ourselves and each other from it. We should also remember that nothing can harm us or benefit us except by the will of Allah, and that He is the best protector and the best healer.
May Allah protect us and protect our ICCD community from the evil eye and all other evils, and may He bless our ICCD community and the Muslim Ummah at large with peace, happiness, and prosperity.

Our Prophet stated:
Whoever builds a Masjid for Allah, Allah will build a home for them in paradise.
This means that if one designates a Masjid, a building, a plot of land only for Allah in the earth, Allah will set and establish a home for them only in the heavens.
