POINCIANA FUNDRAISER! MAKTAB WINTER HOLIDAY DATES

Through the infinite grace and blessings of Allah , we have exited the 5th Islamic lunar month of Jumada al-Awwal and entered into 6th month of Jumada al-Thani. This was the month in which the daughter of Rasulullah , Fatima was born and also the month wherein she passed away. This was also the month wherein Harun Al-Rashid , the 5th Khalifah (leader) of the Abbasid Empire, passed away. His reign was considered the beginning of one of the Islamic Golden Ages which consisted of immense political, social, economical, technological, and scientific achievements and united global dominance by the Muslims. We Muslims have an inspiring and rich history that must be learnt and the success and prosperity of the past came and will only return through the help of Allah which comes from firstly the Muslims following and obeying the Quran and the Sunnah of Rasullullah followed by the Muslims uniting, getting educated, and entering into leadership in every field. May Allah unite, help, and strengthen the Ummah of Rasulullah upon the Quran and Sunnah and return the glorious days of the Islamic Golden Age. Aameen.

ICO would like to remind the community that our events and activities are as active  as ever! As we find ourselves in the midst of December, the peak of the holiday season, it is a time when many take a break from their usual routines, be it from school or work. While it is impermissible for Muslims to celebrate festivals of other faiths, the leisure time provides us with an opportunity to rejuvenate our minds. It becomes a chance to visit relatives, spend quality time with family, and attend to tasks that were neglected due to busy schedules.

While it is hoped that everyone can enjoy these breaks and make them fruitful, it is crucial not to let this attitude compromise our religious obligations. Whether at home or traveling, it is imperative to uphold our Islamic identity and fulfill our religious duties, such as Salah. Furthermore, it is paramount to avoid sins at all costs!

Aisha (RA) reported that the Prophet (PBUH) used to say, O Allah! I seek refuge with You from laziness. With the end of the year break being upon us, many students, including myself, will be let out of school for a good chunk of time. With most of us being handed this much free time, we may not know what to do with it and to that I wanted to share what my teacher, Hafiz Tariq Rasheed, told me a couple of years ago. He said, Use this time to relax, but do not use this time to become lazy. Alhumdulilah we have this break to step away from academics and to finally relax our brain, but we cannot use this time to do absolutely nothing. During the school year, many of us may have found it difficult to come to the masjid for whatever reason we had. Now Alhumdulilah with this free time, we can all make the effort to pray in congregation at the masjid. Another way we can avoid becoming lazy is using the time to read a little more Quran than we were able to during the school year. With these small implements, we can relax ourselves from our academic duty without becoming overtly lazy. May Allah SWT make it easy for all of us to become better with our deen and our academics.

Ali grew up attending the Islamic Center of Orlando. He completely his memorization of the Quran in 2022. He is currently a college student and enjoys going to the gym and spending time in the masjid in his free time.
