Aayah of the Day
Surah AT-Tawbah: Ayat 36
(9:36) Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve [lunar] months in the register of Allah [from] the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred. That is the correct religion, so do not wrong yourselves during them. And fight against the disbelievers collectively as they fight against you collectively. And know that Allah is with the righteous [who fear Him].
The four sacred months in Islam are:
-
Rajab,
-
Dhu al-Qadah,
-
Dhu'l-Hijjah, and
-
Muharram.
Hadith of the Day
Narrated by Abu Musa: When the Prophet () arrived at Medina, he noticed that some people among the Jews used to respect Ashura (i.e. 10th of Muharram) and fast on it. The Prophet () then said, We have more right to observe fast on this day. and ordered that fasting should be observed on it.
(Bukhari)
It was narrated from Ibn Abbas that the Messenger of Allah (May Allahs peace and blessings be upon him) said: If I live until next year, I will fast the ninth day (of Muharram) too.
(Muslim)
Fasting on the Day of Ashura, I hope will expiate the sins of the previous year.
(Sahih Muslim)
