As we welcome the new Hijri year 1446, we extend our prayers for a blessed and prosperous year ahead. This significant occasion provides us with an opportunity to reflect on our past actions, renew our intentions, and strive for greater unity within our community. The Hijri New Year marks the anniversary of the year of Hijrah, the migration of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his followers from Makkah to Madinah. This pivotal event in Islamic history symbolizes the triumph of faith over adversity and the establishment of the first Muslim community. It reminds us of the importance of sacrifice, perseverance, and solidarity.
We encourage everyone to observe fasting during this blessed month of Muharram, as recommended by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The Prophet (PBUH) said, "The best of fasting after Ramadan is fasting Allah's month of Muharram" (Sahih Muslim).
Furthermore, we would like to remind you of the significance of Ashoura, which falls on the 10th of Muharram (Tuesday, July 16). Abu Qatadah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) was asked about observing As-Saum (the fast) on the tenth day of Muharram, and he replied, "It is an expiation for the sins of the preceding year" (Sahih Muslim). This is the day in which ALLAH saved Prophet Musa (AS) and the Israelites from Pharaoh. Additionally, multiple significant Islamic events have occurred in Muharram, including the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (RA) in Karbala while standing for justice and truth. Let these events guide us and inspire us to uphold the values of justice, resilience, and faith in our daily lives.
We are excited to announce a series of community events planned throughout this month. These events are designed to bring us closer together and provide opportunities for spiritual growth and communal support. Stay tuned for further details.
May Allah bless us all in this new year, grant us strength and unity, and accept our good deeds.
