When is Eid ul-Adha?
By Sheikh Mustafa Umar
For Eid ul-Adha, the date of Hajj is the determining factor (for most scholars), rather than the sighting of the moon. Therefore, whichever country rules over Makkah will determine and announce when the first day of the month of Dhul Hijjah is. The date for Eid ul-Adha can only be determined ten days in advance, since Saudi Arabia follows the local sighting method only. The expected date for Eid ul-Adha 1445/2024, based on the Saudi Ummul Qura Calendar (calculated) is Sunday, June 16, 2024, but will only be known for sure ten days in advance. Both FCNA and AMJA will follow the announcement by the government ruling over Makkah.
