Fasting the Day of Ashoura
As Salaamu Alaykum dear ICOI Community,
The Prophet encouraged us to honor Ashura by fasting, which
expiates sins of the past year. This day marks Allahs favor upon
Prophet Musa (as) and his followers when the Red Sea parted, leading
them to liberation from Pharaoh.
The Prophet advised us to join the fasting of Ashura with fasting
the day before or after. May we spend this day in sincere fasting,
seeking His Forgiveness, reflecting on our need for salvation, and
remembering Allah's power to resolve our affairs.
On this special day, we have a set of special events happening at
ICOI. Join us at 6:30 PM for reflections on the story of Imam Hussain
(RA) by Sh. Mustafa Umar.
Following that, we have a community potluck Ashoura iftar on the
patio. We encourage everyone to participate, come together, and break
fast as one big family.
