Letter to the Community on Behalf of Board Chair
Important Update!
Assalamualaikum Dear Community Members,
On behalf of the ICGC Board, I would like to follow up on our commitment from last fall’s community forum with regards to the important work of ICGC outreach.
Over the past couple of months, the board, in collaboration with the outreach team, Imam Musa, and Executive Director Henry Hane, has embarked upon strengthening our policies and procedures. Community feedback from the forum were incorporated into the following updates as voted and adopted by the full board, to allow the outreach team to fulfill its purpose.
Purpose:
The Outreach Team will continue to protect, preserve, and promote a positive image of Islam through education and awareness to combat Islamophobia and re-engage disenfranchised Muslims. The team will continue its unwavering commitment to uphold Islamic principles without compromise.
The outreach team has refined its guiding principles as follows:
● All collaborations will ensure that they have a clear purpose and benefit to the Muslim
American community.
● ICGC will continue its commitment to oppose oppression everywhere and will avoid
working unilaterally with organizations who promote such agendas.
● When complex issues arise, the outreach team will consult with the Imam, Executive
Director, and board chair before finalizing decisions.
● External programming that involves financial commitments or youth engagement will
require alignment with the board’s executive committee.
● In order to maintain community sensitivity and credibility, we will continue to address
concerns via clear communication and forums.
● The outreach team will review collaborations annually to ensure ongoing compliance
with our purpose.
Please keep in mind that the outreach team is composed of dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to represent us all to fulfill ICGC’s vision. On behalf of the full board, we thank them for their dedication and service.
As we continue this robust work, the goal is to expand the outreach team to be further reflective of our community. I strongly encourage additional individuals to join this team. Interested volunteers will be offered training to become empowered ambassadors.
