City of East Lansing Rejects call for a Ceasefire in Gaza
We would like to thank several members from across the community including some members of the Jewish faith community that came to show their support for the Ceasefire resolution.
After two hours of public comments that were overwhelmingly in support of the Gaza ceasefire, the council rejected the resolution after only 28 minutes of discussion. Here is how the council voted:
Mayor George Brookover - Opposed to the resolution.
Mayor Pro Tem Kerry Ebersole Singh - Agreed with most parts of the resolution.
Councilmember Erik Altmann - Opposed to the resolution.
Councilmember Dana Watson - Championed the resolution.
Councilmember Mark Meadows - Opposed the resolution but was willing to entertain the idea of a ceasefire resolution.

Our struggle isn't over. We won't give up as people in Gaza are continuing to be killed. At this time, I'd like to thank everyone for signing, commenting and showing your support.
Volunteer Training | Saturday, January 13 | 4pm to 6pm | at the Islamic Center
We are hosting the volunteer training workshop this coming Saturday January 13 from 4-6:00pm at the mosque gymnasium (see flyer below). We will have 1 hour of information sharing, and then 1 hour of hands on planning and brainstorming with your fellow volunteers. InshaAllah by the end of the workshop we will have a tentative calendar for the coming year with activities and events for our youth, fundraising ideas, and an overall idea of who is able to do what.
This event is for
~all those who signed up to be a volunteer
~volunteers from previous years who want to continue volunteering this year
~any youth ages 12+ as our youth are also volunteers.
Our youth ages 12-18 will be organizing clubs, volunteering for critical services (translation, promotion, marketing, photography, child care, etc), and sharing their ideas for what they want for the coming year so any youth who is interested in volunteering may attend as long as they meet the minimum age requirement of 12.
Also any adult who wants to volunteer to fulfill a critical service like those listed above as well as volunteer drivers, English language tutors, marketing and promotion, mentors, bakers and chefs, child care, and baristas for our new coffee shop are also encouraged to attend to share your ideas and find a group that you want to partner with. So if you have a friend who wants to join but doesn’t have a lot of time to dedicate on a regular basis but is able and willing to help, bring them along.
Food and beverages will be provided as well as child care for ages 12 months-10 years old. If you haven’t registered for this event or if you have a friend or youth who will participate with you who hasn’t signed up please text me the details so we can be sure to have enough food. If you need child watch for someone under the age of 10 and haven’t sent their details please do so no later than Thursday January 11.
