as'salaamu alaykum,
I hope you all are doing well inshallah and keeping safe. I wanted to send a quick update from this afternoon's announcement re:visitor access to the Islamic Center. Alhamdulillah, we will be resuming our normal visitor access from tomorrow inshallah (Wednesday) for all non-NYU community members. All visitors will still need to be inputted into NYU's Public Safety Visitor Portal. This policy has been in place for a few years now and will likely remain for some time.
Many of you have access that will expire as of May 1st which is also tomorrow. Others haven't been updated for some time. Whether you know if your access is expired or valid, I would recommend that you fill out this form to renew your access approval or to simply submit it for the first time. The guards will unfortunately have to turn people away who are not in the system so please do submit it as soon as possible. The entire process step-by-step is as follows:
STEPS TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE BUILDING & OTHER IMPORTANT INFO:
- Provide requested info in full via this form (same as above)
- IC Staff will submit that info to NYU's Public Safety Office requesting visitor access for you
- NYU Public Safety will send you an email indicating that you have been approved to enter the facilities. Please do not delete this email and keep a copy of it with you to enter the building.
- The approval is pretty quick once we've inputted it into the NYU Public Safety Visitor Portal, but filling out our form is just the first step - we still have to submit your information afterwards so please plan in advance. There is no guarantee that we will be able to get everything done onsite.
- Once in the system, your approval will be for a few months at least so you don't need to do it every time you visit the building.
- You will need a physical government issued ID card with photo to sign into the building - a virtual ID will not be accepted. There are no exceptions to this.
- Please do not ask the security guards to make exceptions for you as it puts them in a compromising situation.
- Your approval does not carry over to any other individuals regardless of your relationship to them - friend, family member, etc. They will need to be submitted individually.
Please do keep each other and our entire community in your prayers. It is a difficult time for many right now. I know witnessing law enforcement descend on Columbia and CCNY this evening is frightening, painful, and angering all at the same time. It's important to be together at times like this. If I or any of our staff can be helpful with anything to any of you, please let me know.
Barakallahu feekum - may Allah bless each of you and your loved ones and give to you all only the best in this world and the best in the next. Ameen.
- Khalid
