with Ustadh Sam & Imam Khalid

Date: Saturday, April 20th

Location: South Lawn / Quiet Lawn

As-salaamu 'Alaikum!

The Islamic Center at NYU is excited to launch our hike series this upcoming SaturdayApril 20th with Ustadh Sam McCausland and Imam Khalid Latif!

Solitude and seclusion has been instrumental in detaching from this dunya and reaffirming our connection to the divine since the Prophet () peace and blessings be upon him, first received revelation in the cave of Hira.

We seek now to create a space within our community to collectively exercise intentional solitudesomething that can feel like a difficult task in the cacophony of the city.

Our first convening will take place, insha' Allah, on the South Lawn / Quiet Lawn in Central Park. Well meet at 10am. The program will consist of a brief talk with Imam Khalid Latif before we break out individually to reflect, reconvene to discuss, then break out again, before coming back to share and pray Zuhr in congregation.

The main focus of this gathering is to seek to be quiet and reflective, even in a space as busy as our home city. Anyone participating is expected to respect other people seeking quiet and refrain from chatting and socializing. We will have an option for everyone to turn their phones into a secured box for the duration of the gathering to assist in minimizing distractions.

Anyone interested in joining us should complete the registration form ASAP. Plan on bringing a prayer rug, blanket, or towel to sit on. Wear comfortable and non-restrictive clothing. Bring a water bottle and a snack. Insha' Allah, we will have earplugs for those participants who may need a little help blocking out the noise.

Our hope is to have this be a trial run to gauge interest for future adventures outside the city to hike in the coming months, insha' Allah!
