- Local Police (responded)
Incident Summary:
On Friday, May 9, 2025, two individuals who are not members of ISF arrived at the masjid before Jumuah prayer (close to 12:00 pm). These individuals have in the recent past (for over a month) repeatedly initiated confrontations with ISF staff and volunteers. Gradually increasing aggressiveness each week, which included yelling at volunteers, name calling, family shaming, and threats. On this occasion, they initiated disruption at Jumuah. Their claim was secondhand knowledge, of housekeeping items related to chairs re-location within the building.
Despite volunteer explanation, they continued ongoing provocation. To be noted, ISF staff and volunteers-maintained professionalism and patience to ensure a peaceful environment for the community during this and other Jumuah services. However, on this occasion, the individuals escalated the situation by loudly arguing with a volunteer about seating matter that was not directly related to them. Their shouting disrupted the entire prayer hall, demonstrated a lack of respect for the sanctity of the masjid, and incited others to raise their voices. The Imam proceeded with the khutbah in an attempt to calm the situation.
Following the conclusion of the prayer, one of the individuals loudly interrupted the post-prayer announcements, showing complete disregard for the two individuals who were about to take Shahadah. Despite repeated requests from the announcer, staff, Imam, and community members to remain calm, both individuals continued shouting, encouraging further disruption from others.
The disturbance extended into the lobby and outside the masjid premises. Numerous community members attempted to restore order but were unsuccessful. At the urging of prominent community members, the ISF President contacted law enforcement for the safety of community members and other guests.
Police arrived shortly thereafter and neutralized the situation. The two individuals were issued trespass warnings and are no longer permitted on ISF property.
Outcome:
- Situation de-escalated with the help of local authorities
- Trespass warnings issued to both individuals
- Community members and staff remained safe
- Normal operations resumed
