Assalamu Alaykum Champions Community,
We are closely monitoring the upcoming freeze storm expected to begin Sunday night. Your safety remains our top priority, and we will promptly inform you if any programming needs to be canceled or adjusted.
Please be advised that, as a precaution, we may need to winterize the center by shutting off the water valves to protect the facility. We will communicate any updates regarding this decision.
In the meantime, we encourage everyone to take appropriate precautions provided by the authorities.
We have reproduced below the message shared by the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service is expected to issue a hard freeze watch for Houston and surrounding areas beginning Sunday, January 19th through Friday, January 24th. Temperatures are projected to be in the teens in northern outlying areas and in the 20's within Houston. Additionally, some form of precipitation (rain, sleet, or snow) is expected to begin Tuesday. As such, we may see road closures throughout the Houston area on Tuesday.
All residents should begin making preparations to winterize their property to prevent the inconvenience and expense of broken water pipes. Following these very simple guidelines in preparing for a freeze will help make getting through the situation safer and comfortable for you.
- Keep your home heated to at least 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Hoses should be disconnected from outside faucets.
- At least one inside faucet, preferably more, should drip lukewarm water so that both hot and cold pipes are involved.
- Open interior doors to rooms, cupboards and vanities to allow warm air to circulate around pipes during the hard freeze conditions.
- All faucets should be checked before you retire for the evening and again in the morning.
- If you are going to be away for any length of time, a friend/neighbor should be asked to check pipes (you might furnish them with emergency telephone numbers).
- Store water for emergency use.
- Please be careful when going up and down the steps, as ice may form. In addition, please be careful when walking along sidewalks and/or driveways as well.
