RCM Cleanup coming soon

Asalaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,

Over the past few months, several respected community members have raised concerns about the crowded conditions in the masjid lobby during peak times such as Jumuah, and the resulting challenges in maintaining appropriate gender interactions. Alhamdulillah, the growth of our community is a blessing, but it also requires us to adapt thoughtfully while staying true to our values of being a welcoming community grounded in the Quran and Sunnah.

This concern was brought to the attention of the board and staff through various channels, including board meetings, chats, and informal discussions. To address it in a manner that aligns with Islamic principles and community needs, we initiated a deliberate and consultative process. This included input from community members and staff, outreach to religious advisors, and extensive discussions.

As always, RCM defers religious decisions to qualified scholars. To that end, this issue was discussed with both Ustadha Fatima Lette and Sheikh Yasir Fahmy. After careful consideration, the following steps will be implemented to manage the issue of overcrowding while maintaining the dignity and rights of all community members:

  1. School Doorway Reserved During Peak Times: During peak times such as Jumuah, a sign will be placed near the school doorway requesting brothers to leave this entrance clear for sisters. This measure is aimed at reducing overcrowding and facilitating smoother access for sisters who wish to use this doorway.

  2. Convenience: To further support this adjustment, shoe racks will be placed near the doorway for the convenience of sisters using this as their preferred route to prayer areas.

  3. Community Education: We will increase community education on theAdab al-Masjid(etiquette of the mosque), emphasizing the importance of maintaining the sanctity and decorum of shared spaces.

  4. Communication: These adjustments will be announced during Jumuah and other peak times, discussed during upcoming community events and town halls, and shared through other channels.

Our religious advisors have affirmed that these steps are appropriate for addressing the current challenges, and if they prove insufficient over time other measures can be considered.Sisters remain fully welcome to use the main entrances, lobbies, and hallways of the masjid at all times. These measures will help alleviate congestion and manage traffic flow in a way that respects the comfort and dignity of everyone.

We kindly ask for the cooperation of all community members in respecting these adjustments, particularly during busy times. Brothers, your understanding in leaving the designated doorway clear for sisters when signs are posted is greatly appreciated.

We appreciate everyones patience as RCM deliberated on this issue. Jazakum Allahu Khair for your understanding and support.
