Night of Solidarity and Prayers for Palestine
This last year has been tremendously painful for our community as we have witnessed a horrific genocide enfold before our very eyes.
We have witnessed the brutal murder of countless innocent civilian men, women, and children in Gaza and now Lebanon. As we mourn these losses, we also empathize with many in our community who have lost multiple family members in the region.
We have also witnessed the destruction of the entire region with attacks upon mosques, churches, schools, hospitals, relief workers, journalists, and infrastructure.
We have witnessed the deliberate starvation of an entire population, while relief trucks have been blocked from entering. Disease, maiming, and death is rampant because children as young as premature babies have died from bombs, lack of vaccines/medical care/clean water and loss of entire families.
The region has been described as “A Graveyard for Children.”
Despite our collective pain, we have also witnessed the resilience of the people of Gaza whose faith is a testimony to humanity.
We are living in an era where Islamophobia and anti Arab sentiment has heightened dramatically. According to the most recent study published by the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding (ISPU), Muslims are the most likely group to experience religious discrimination in the past 12 months. Yet, we have witnessed the courage of people of all faiths sacrifice their time and resources to speak up for justice.
The Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati, in collaboration with many organizations across the region, will host a Night of Solidarity and Prayers for Palestine on Sunday October 6, 2024, because, as history attests, it did not start on October 7th.
The event will include voices from the community, opportunities for support, and testimony from a surgeon who traveled to the region to help the wounded.
It will conclude with spiritual leaders from many local mosques come together for earnest prayers to lift the Oppression.
