[HIC] Imam Search Update

Assalamualaikum Dear Community Members,

As you probably know, we were expecting another imam candidate to visit us next weekend (Jan 10/11); however, the candidate in question has accepted a different position in Austin, TX and will no longer be visiting us.

Additionally, we also wanted to go ahead and update everyone on some key details pertaining to the search process. Firstly, please know that an independent Imam Search Committee has been set up to help us with this task. While a few board members are a part of the committee, for the most part, it is an independent unit that includes a variety of people from different community groups. The committee is responsible for posting job related information, reviewing applications, vetting candidates, arranging visits, and more.

As the needs of the community grow, the masjid is looking into hiring both an Imam and a Resident Scholar. If a candidate is able to fulfil the duties/tasks related to both jobs, the positions will be consolidated and only one candidate will be hired. At this point, however, we are too early in the search process to have any definitive answers.

Keep in mind that once a candidate is considered a serious contender, surveys will be sent out to the community; the feedback we receive from community members will play a vital role in determining a candidate's suitability for the position. Please note that this entire process will take time - we want to make sure we are hiring the best candidate possible.

Lastly, we will also be holding a town hall soon to address any concerns from the community; details will be sent out once we have finalized a date/time. In the meanwhile, as Ramadan approaches (inshaAllah, may we all get to witness it!), arrangements are being made to ensure that the community's activities during this blessed month continue without disruption.
